Our skin is beautiful. It is living. It is our protector. It is our healer.
Did you know our skin tells a story? When we are at our healthiest, our skin radiates an undeniable glow with just minor imperfections. Although, we can develop irritations and sensitivities due to the environment, internal imbalances, and even topical products. That is our skin's way of saying, "Help!". Overuse of irritating products and those that are not proper for our unique microbiome (Yes! Our skin is super complex!), creates a breakdown of our protective barrier. Our skin's bacteria call us home and protect us from invading pathogens by communicating with our immune system. We must maintain our microbiome so they all continue to work harmoniously to keep us healthy. Inflammation, breakouts, itchiness, and burning are just a few symptoms that speak loudly by saying there is something wrong. Our body sends us an invitation into understanding imbalances and these messages say there is an inner and outer disharmony. This creates a challenging yet deep understanding of ourselves and how we need just the right type of attention. Little clues our body gives us are important so we can tap into our needs. Sometimes it doesn't necessarily feel luxurious but as we surrender and tune in, we begin to feel more like ourselves..a gift that we can only give ourselves.
Just as flowers bloom within the perfect environment, our precious skin needs the perfect balance to be its healthiest. Lots of water, beneficial bacteria, nutrients from the earth (topically and internally), and gentle sun exposure creates and maintains a harmonious balance for our best skin ever.
If your skin is signaling for help, please make an appointment with myself or a local Licensed Esthetician. We can dive deep, discover, and properly treat you.
Welcome, 2018! The new year is always the perfect chance to reflect on the sweetest moments and recognize our accomplishments of all sizes. A clean slate provides new opportunities for self-awareness and what we can do to feel better in our own skin. Say "no" to what drains us, and "yes" to what fills our souls and gives us moments of rest. We are able to give much more when we deeply love from within. Have you started a little list of intentions? Think daily gratitude, practicing yoga, eating mindfully and healthfully, turning skin care into a ritual of self-love, and letting go of physical and mental clutter. Remember, this is a chance to connect with ourselves and feel what we really need, so keep in a state of calm and enjoy the bliss.
One way to welcome the new year starts with being at peace with our skin. Gentle care, tender sweetness, and complete acceptance are the paths into becoming comfortable within our own skin. This gives us a little confidence that may have been missing, too. We will begin to have a gentle bounce in our step and our skin will glow just a bit brighter. I'm here to help cultivate your self-love, so just let me know when you're ready and I'm all yours.
Cooler weather is officially here! Now is the perfect time to introduce hydrating, healing, and nourishing serums and moisturizers to your delicate complexion. Utilizing a rich blend of ingredients ensures you will be soothed and protected during the temperature shift. A strong barrier will maintain your natural hydration as well, lessening winter dryness! When our skin's barrier is impaired and imbalanced, we begin to feel tightness, itchiness, flakiness, sensitivity, and an overall inflammation.
Here are my favorite products to keep your skin blanketed in hydration and protection during the winter:

Along with a beautiful home care regimen, our lifestyle can also create healthy changes within our skin as well! One little tip to amp up your skin's hydration is to add a humidifier into your home. A humidifier will bring the atmosphere into balance by adding water vapor in the air, giving your complexion delicious hydration for a vibrant, supple glow.

When I was in college, my studies weren't entirely focused because something in my gut was guiding me in another direction. My original, pre-Psychology major was Biology with the intention of becoming a Dermatologist! Although, things don't always go quite as planned, but this bump in the road was obviously a blessing in disguise. I knew my love for skin was not going anywhere so after a bit of researching, I was led to the Esthetics program at Florida College of Natural Health. After my thorough appointment, tons of questions, and on-the-spot interview.. I was accepted..without EVER receiving a facial treatment before! Yes, never had a facial in my LIFE. But again, I listed to my intuition and knew this was exactly where I needed to be. Fast-forward almost 9 years later, I have used my training and education and transformed into a unique and special experience for you.
Firstly, what is bringing you to me? First signs of aging? Acne, blackheads, bumpiness? Redness, irritation, flakiness? Needing a hydration or brightening boost? Or just simply, to try something new?
Please never hesitate to contact me with any questions; I'm always here to help! I hope I was able to ease any doubts you may have had, questions you needed answered, and gave you hope for the best facial experience you will have.
"Your arms were always open when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson. Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly." -Sarah Malin

With our daily lives of constant rushing around and working our tails off, our stress levels are at their highest. With pressure to have a money-making career (which is not always fulfilling), families to provide for, and bills hanging over our heads, we become accustomed to this lifestyle leading to a state of continual stress. Many times, we are unaware of the heightened state and continue to push ourselves, leading to a weakened immune system and impaired epidermal barrier, influencing skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, and premature aging. Let's look at how stress hormones create these skin disorders and how we can reduce stress for a healthy complexion!
Acne and stress go together like peanut butter and jelly. Many of my clients come in with large breakouts, especially around their chin and neck and one of the first things I ask is, "What are your stress levels like?". As we become stressed, our bodies produce the stress hormone called cortisol. As our cortisol levels become elevated, our sebaceous glands are triggered, leading to an increase in oil production blocking the hair follicles, leading to acne. Prolonged stress also depletes our bodies of essential fatty acids which delays wound healing, keeping our skin at a constant state of inflammation.
Sticking with the loss of essential fatty acids, this is extremely important in understanding how sensitivities and inflammation emerge. Our tissues contain chemicals called prostaglandins, which are groups of lipids that assist in repairing damaged skin. When under chronic stress, these lipids become "overworked" and lead to a breakdown of essential fatty acids, causing dryness, rosacea, and general sensitivity. By neglecting the symptoms, our skin becomes more sensitive, leading to dermatitis with an increased reactiveness to skin care products and even hives.
Heightened cortisol levels disrupts the formation of new collagen, creating weaker and more fragile collagen. Our skin loses elasticity and plumpness while losing its capacity to hold onto water, thus making lines and wrinkles form and become more prominent. Our cells need to communicate effectively for proper production and cortisol overtime slows the blood supply, leading to stagnation and dryness.
When you can identify what is causing stress to your body and skin, you can take better care of yourself by taking small steps to diminish effects.

Spring has sprung! I don't know about you, but I absolutely love the fresh air of spring and the chance for renewing my skin after the chilly days of winter. The dryness of winter leaves our skin's natural moisture content depleted and thirsty for some hydration. Our skin is also used to heavier moisturizers during these months which leaves the skin needing a gentle exfoliation to prepare for the new season.
Emphasizing holistic remedies into your regimen is what will create healthy changes to your skin. By feeding your skin from the inside with nutrient-rich, whole foods, you are ultimately giving your skin a healthy, glowing boost. Your skin mirrors what is imbalanced within your body--a dull, dry, and sallow appearance tells me that you must be lacking hydration and healthy fats. So let's discuss some of my favorite foods for boosting your glow and giving your skin a supple complexion!
1. Avocado is a rich source of nourishing fatty acids and Vitamin E which improves your skin health by replenishing your skin's moisture barrier and and fighting oxidative cellular damage. The buttery texture of this fruit tells you just how abundant the fat is, preserving your precious moisture and boosting your glow.
2. Improve your skin's texture and suppleness with walnuts! Walnuts contain high levels of nourishing Omega-3 fatty acids and copper, increasing your collagen production while hydrating your cells for more youthful skin.
3. Consider swapping your usual pre-made salad dressings for olive oil and a splash of vinegar. Olive oil contains 75% of rich monounsaturated fats and antioxidants which supports your skin's health by boosting free-radical protection and repairing your skin's barrier. This beauty oil is a large part of the heart-healthy Mediterranean Diet which doctors are recognizing as the most healthful way to eat!
4. Chia seeds are becoming increasingly popular due to their ability to work wonders on the skin. Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, protein, fiber, and antioxidants, these little seeds assist in repairing the skin and protect against dangerous pathogens by strengthening your barrier.
5. It's strawberry season so stock up on these pretties for glowing skin! Strawberries contain over 75% water and are an incredible source of skin-boosting antioxidants that protect you from free radicals that destroy collagen and steal oxygen from healthy cells. Rich in Vitamin C, strawberries will keep your skin firm and discourages the formation of lines and wrinkles.
6. Sweet potatoes are an often under-looked root vegetable for skin hydration but, in fact, these tubers contain an abundance of Vitamin A. Vitamin A assists in repairing tissue damage, preventing fine lines and smoothing roughness, all of which are symptoms of dry skin.
7. Eat your broccoli! Being 90% water, this nutritional powerhouse plumps skin by hydrating from the inside out. With high levels of Vitamin C & E, broccoli stimulates collagen production and protects your cells against aging, while boosting your protective properties against UV damage.
8. Coconut oil! You were waiting for this one, right? Coconut oil taken internally nourishes and heals the body as it contains anti-inflammatory fatty acids, Caprylic and Lauric. These healthy fats treat skin conditions such as dryness, eczema, and dermatitis by balancing out candida and fungal sources.
With water as my favorite and easiest source of hydration, you can ultimately heal and nourish your skin with a healthy diet rich in antioxidants and healthy fats. Use this guide as a start to boosting your hydration to reveal glow-y, beautiful skin!
